April is a fantastic month in the garden as we emerge from the depths of winter. Everything is starting to grow and show a bit of life again. Here are some top tips on what to focus on this month.
- Dig out the trowel and get to work pulling out those weeds
- Rake back the moss from the lawn
- Give the lawn it’s first real cut of the year and keep it up every two weeks if it warrants it (which it will)
- Fix the patches in the lawn with a mix of sand and top soil and encourage the grass to grow through.
- There’s still a chance of frost so make sure you are protecting those blossoms.
- Time to get sowing in the hardy root vegetables as well as the peas, leeks and spinach.
- Get some much needed high-nitrogen fertiliser into your berries; blackberries, blackcurrants etc.
- Tie back the climbers amongst you garden, won’t be long before they are sprouting.
- Get round the house and ramp up the water you’re giving the indoor plants
- Start work on filling those pots with the wonder of summer flowering blubs.
